She has given workshops on the Alexander Technique for a wide range of groups interested in wellbeing and posture: SfEP (the Society of Editors and Proofreaders); the Society of Indexers; GP study groups; receptionists at a local surgery; physiotherapists and others on the pain management team at Bart’s Hospital. She has also twice contributed to Staff Wellness Days at Wandsworth Prison. Presenting the principles and practical applications of the Alexander Technique for interested groups challenging and rewarding. Her clients come from all walks of life, and all ages. In Shelagh’s previous experience as an IT training consultant, she observed that people using computers tend to work become extensions of the machine. She believes that a sustainable working environment leads to creative, healthy, productive people, and that the Alexander Technique could and should be a major contributor in the work environment, giving people back the power to take care of themselves.
