Workspace Assessments

As we spend longer at computers, it becomes ever more important to be sure that the workspace is set up to encourage good postural habits.

The single biggest reason people visit their doctor is for musculoskeletal pain: pain in the joints and muscles. Of these, back pain is the one that causes the most lost work days.

Over the course of a working life, 80% of us will take time off work because of back pain.

Health and Safety Legislation was enacted to ensure that workspaces are safe and comfortable working environments. As a trained DSE (Display Screen Equipment) assessor, Shelagh can evaluate your working environment to ensure that it both meets government guidelines and your needs.

An assessment covers the following areas:

  • the suitability and height of the chair and desk;
  • the height and positioning of the monitor;
  • the keyboard and mouse arrangement;
  • the arrangement of the desk and essential items on it.
  • Lighting is also a crucial factor in the working environment, as is well-arranged access to frequently used storage. Much can be done by simply looking at and re-arranging the elements of the workspace that are already present.
